JBL SUB80P: Active wireless Subwoofer with 8 inch driver

The JBL SUB80P subwoofer received a “closed case” acoustic design, which, according to the developers, should make it more musical compared to analogues. The subwoofer will provide a uniform distribution of sound over 360º due to the bass speaker directed downwards. In turn, this will provide greater independence of sound from the location of the subwoofer in the room.

The speaker is an 8-inch driver that receives a signal from a class D amplifier. Its RMS power is 200 watts, and its dynamic power is twice that. Placement is further facilitated by the JBL SUB80P’s built-in 2.4GHz wireless receiver.

“The SUB80P is a fantastic way to add extended bass to any system, with incredible ease of connection and placement flexibility,”

said Jim Garrett, Senior Director of Product Strategy and Planning at HARMAN Luxury Audio.

A small wireless transmitter will be easy to hide somewhere near the output sockets of the audio equipment or behind the TV. The transmitter is powered by a 12 V network adapter, and the signal is connected to the source via a pair of RCA connectors. In addition, the transmitter has a 3.5mm 12V trigger input as an alternative to auto-on.

On the back of the subwoofer, you’ll find a level control, crossover bypass, phase, and auto-power switches. The novelty received a strict neutral design in a glossy black color.

The SUB80P is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2022. In the US, the JBL SUB80P wireless subwoofer will cost $600.
